Let’s talk about it. That elephant. I mean, he’s just sitting there, acting like he’s not taking up the whole room. I’ve been noticeably absent from Instagram, and the truth is… I am overwhelmed. I’ve never been the type to have these sort of emotions/feelings, but life is just a little too much lately to try to navigate both. Do I plan to return in full dancing mode? I sure hope so. I miss that girl, but will it be this week? Probably not. So thanks for sticking around even though the lip sync-singing and helmet haven’t made their appearance in quite awhile. So this week for the Fab Five I am bringing you things that have helped me cope with emotions, and no…it’s not all chocolate.
1. Color
This week to fill my plate with joy I built color palettes for you to enjoy. Yes, you are getting a sneak peek of some of the Color Look Book that we are working on behind the scenes. I love color (no secret there) and creating brings me endless amounts of JOY. So I pulled up old photos from some of our photo shoots and went to town matching colors and creating palettes for any occasion.
2. The Home Edit Wannabe
Even tho there is zero chance I will ever be on that show, I have found lots of comfort lately in a perfectly organized home. (Don’t kid yourself, my home is far from it.) I have been switching bins out this last week trying to find a place for everything and everything in its place. Oh gosh, did I just become my mother? *Audible gasp*
I don’t know about you but some cupboards are perfectly unorganized. You know what I am talking about. Under the kitchen sink, the Tupperware drawer and why do we save lids that don’t have a base? Probably the same reason why I save socks with no match. I just know the second I throw that single sock away the missing sock will pop up. (am-i-right?) So I bought THIS set of organizers to combat chaos under the kitchen sink as well as the Tupperware lid drawer. Watch out world, I am getting my stuff together. THESE also have found a home in my pantry. I actually bought 12 sets. Every type of fruit snack has a home.
3. Favorite Cookies
I mean, you probably are staring at my favorite cookies right now, but I have others. I am a equal opportunity cookie eater and lover. But are you ready to be completely appalled? I love chocolate chip cookies… without (yes, WITHOUT) the chocolate chips. Can you believe it? There is one coookie that I add chocolate chunks (like chocolate chips, but better) and those are the Levain Bakery knock offs. I found this recipe and make it often!
I also love Oreo cookies. Not like the chocolate, cream, chocolate sandwich cookie, but like a sugar cookie base with chopped up Oreos in it with frosting. It’s like the best of both worlds, really! Here are some other amazing knock offs of store cookies that I love to make for my kiddos, and they would also make fantastic back to school gifts for teachers. And I love our sugar cookies that have our signature crumbles added in. Check out our Maple Pecan sugar cookie or our Pumpkin Spice — it’s not too early for fall, right? (JK. We know it’s too early!)
4. In my downtime
This week was different, it felt different, it sat different, it just was different. I am usually busy, busy, busy but I slowed down this week and re-proritze my mental health. I can’t believe I am just this open about it, but here we are. I got some great advice through Instagram stories this week and was happy to start applying them to my life. So I have started back at the gym, eating healthy, prioritizing things that in the long run will bring me joy. I love what I do, and I love connecting, but I also love having a routine and getting back into the way things were. So I watched some movies this week, here were my top three favorites:
- Pitch Perfect. This classic movie always makes me smile The riff off is my favorite scene besides when Bumper nails fat Amy with a burrito. Or when Lilly beat boxes like a circus ride. All of the movie actually.
- Hidden Figures. This movie that explores the inner workings of NASA by women known as “computers.” They are not only amazing but face the odds trying to navigate racial and social issues. These women show grace through trials and were an inspiration to watch
- We don’t talk about him, but today I finally watched Encanto, and though I am not talking about you-know-who, I can’t seem to escape that song from my brain. Have you watched it?
5. What’s on the Blog
We dropped Raspberry Lemon Hot Honey and our best Lemon Desserts, as well a Nutter-Butter Crumble this week. Next week will be a Blackberry recipe. Keep watching for crumbles to be published through the next few weeks. It’s so nice to have everything in its place. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support this week. Your suggestions and advice have worked wonders, I truly appreciate you! What new flavors do you want me to try? What colors should I mix?
